Ayogu Eze Reportedly Joins His Ancestors

A former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who represented Enugu North Senatorial District at the Senate Chamber of the National Assembly, Senator Ayogu Eze has reportedly joined his ancestors.

Ayogu Eze was a successful media practitioner and worked in notable media & communication companies before contesting for senatorial election under the platform of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) where he was elected two consecutive times as a distinguished senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

While a member of the Senate, he was the chairman of the Senate Committee on Works and other key committee membership that added to his activeness in the business of the Senate where he was known for his fearless nature and very outspoken.

In 2014, he contested for the Governorship ticket of his then party PDP in Enugu State ahead of the 2015 Governorship election in Enugu State where a three-term House of Representatives member Rt Honourable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi secured the party ticket and went ahead to win in the main election but Ayogu challenged the process of the primary election to the apex Supreme Court of Nigeria seeking that he won the primary election / authentic flag bearer of PDP in the said Governorship election. The judgment of the Supreme Court recognized Former Governor Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi as the winner of the primary election conducted by PDP and leading to the end of the legal battle.

Senator Ayogu Eze resigned from PDP which had become the opposition party at the Federal level and joined the ruling Party All Progressive Congress (APC) where he secured the Governorship ticket of the party as the flag bearer / Candidate during the 2019 gubernatorial election.

His Governorship ambition did not see the light of day as he only got less than eleven thousand votes across the 17 LGAs in Enugu State where Rt. Honourable Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi secured the majority votes to seal the fate of his second tenure following the election victory.

As a member of APC, Senator Ayogu Eze got other political appointment like his board membership in the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) during the tenure of Former President Muhammad Buhari.

The viral news of his death came as a shock to many Nigerians especially his immediate constituency and Senatorial District.

Senator Eze hails from Enugu Ezike, Igbo Eze North LGA in Enugu State.
