Six Labour Party House of Assembly Members in Enugu State Defects to PDP

During the 2023 gubernatorial and house of Assembly election , an opposition Labour Party for the first time since 1999 won many seats in Enugu State House of Assembly.

Labour Party won majority seats earning their member to produce the majority leader of the state house of Assembly where the speaker and deputy speaker are from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State.

Towards the end of the month of March 2024, six labour party officially defected to the ruling party PDP in Enugu State making LP stronghold in the house of Assembly to be weaker.

The six honourable members of the Enugu State House of Assembly that defected to PDP said that their defection circled around the crisis of Labour Party at the national level, the corruption allegations levelled on the party national chairman as alleged by the treasurer and many more.

They vehemently said that the defection to the ruling party in Enugu State will enable them to serve their constituents very well in line with quality representations.

In another news, the State chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Enugu had threatened to sue the six honourable members of the house of Assembly elected under the platform of Labour party to court and declare their seats vacant if they defect to PDP.

The six house members that have concluded move to defect to PDP are:

Hon. Osita Eze representing Orji River

Hon. Ms, Princess Ugwu representing Enugu South Rural

Hon. Ejike Eze representing Igbo Eze North 1

Hon. Pius Ezeugwu representing Nsukka East

Hon. Johnson Ugwu representing Enugu North

Hon. Amuka Williams representing Igbo- Etiti West
