He ran again for his second term in 2019 under the platform of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and won the election which enabled him to represent his people at the Senate Chamber for complete eight years.

In the build-up to the 2023 General Election in Nigeria, he announced that he wouldn’t be running again for a senatorial seat thereby paving the way for the former Governor of Enugu State Rt. Honourable Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi who became PDP flag bearer for Enugu North Senatorial District.

PDP was defeated in the said senatorial election and the flag bearer of Labour Party Barr Okey Ezea won the election and replaced Senator Chukwuka Utazi in the senate.

In a letter addressed to the Chairman of Nkpologu Ward Uzo Uwani LGA, Sen. Utazi in the viral letter said :

“It is with reservation that I resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party which I had the privilege of being a foundation member at it’s inception in 1998. Reason being that those ideals that attracted me to the party have since receded into oblivion leaving me with no option than to leave and find another party that will afford me with ample opportunity to operate maximally and contribute to national development.
I am therefore wishing you all well as you continue to work hard to eke out a living in the best way possible under the present circumstances”.
