Appeal Court Affirms Solomon Izuchukwu Onah Winner of Udenu House of Assembly Election

Appeal Court in a judgement delivered on Friday 24th November 2023 affirmed the judgment of the election petition tribunal that declared Honourable Solomon Izuchukwu Onah as the winner of the Udenu House of Assembly election.

Honourable Solomon Izuchukwu Onah popularly known as ” Jack Solo” was a former commissioner for Lands in Enugu State and the incumbent Executive Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area. He contested in the March 2023 House of Assembly election to represent the good people of Udenu constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly (ESHA) but INEC declared his opponent Mr Obinna Ijere as the winner of the election.

He filed a case through his lawyers challenging the declaration made by INEC and also challenging the eligibility of Obinna Ijere in the said election.

The Tribunal and and Appeal court in a separate judgment delivered, affirmed the victory of Solomon Izuchukwu Onah as the duly elected Udenu House of Assembly member at the State legislative arm of the Government.

Obinna Ijere was a civil servant and the judgment delivered showed he violated the electoral act and was not eligible to contest the election as he did not resign from his government job properly before seeking the Labour Party ticket as the party flag bearer in the election.

The Federal Court of Appeal in a judgment delivered in Lagos State affirmed Solomon Izuchukwu Onah the winner of the election having secured the majority votes in the election.

Supporters of Jack Solo welcome the judgment with enormous joy and happiness as he prepares to take his rightful seat in the Enugu State House of Assembly where he will be representing the Udenu constituency at the State legislative chamber.
