Commuters and road users that pass through the bridge located at New Artisan and Enugu – Port Harcourt Express road witnessed the collapse of the bridge towards evening of 25th September 2023.
The road users could not use the road and alternative diversion became the glaring solution.
The Executive Governor of Enugu State His Excellency Peter Ndubuisi Mbah also visited the scene and noted the neglect of maintenance culture in road infrastructure in the country. He also demanded for certain roads to be conceded to the State Government who can take advantage of the concession to work on damaged roads or maintain the road in their States.
No life was lost when the bridge collapsed and it’s a good thing that the tragedy was not severe as nothing can replace life. Road can be maintained or worked upon but death at the scene of such eventuality can’t be undone. The zero loss of life at the scene of the bridge collapse is a good one and the State Governor in his speech asked rhetorical questions to ascertain if the current level of federal road maintenance is working or not.
