Tribunal Affirms Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the Governor of Lagos State

Governorship Election Petition Tribunal (GEPT) sitting in Lagos State delivered judgement on the election petition case challenging the victory of the Executive Governor of Lagos State who was the then-candidate of All Progressive Congress ( APC) during the 18th March 2023 Governorship election in Lagos State.

The two main issues filed as ground to sack Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu were all dismissed.

In the petition, his eligibility to contest for the office of the Governor was challenged citing the eligibility of his running mate who ran on the same joint ticket with him in the election.

The tribunal ruled that he won his election and dismissed the petition of LP candidate and PDP candidate respectively.

Speaking after the judgment of the tribunal, he made a public statement using his verified X social media page where he said:

“Yesterday the Election Petition Tribunal dismissed emphatically two petitions against our government and unanimously reaffirmed our victory at the polls to the Glory of God and in service to the people Governance is about service, not distractions and this victory inspires us to redouble our efforts in delivering quality dividends of democracy to Lagosians. Our promise remains steadfast, the voices of Lagosians were heard loud and clear at the polls, resulting in our reaffirmed landslide victory. I commend the judiciary and the judges that delivered the well thought-out and detailed judgments. They took their time to explain to everyone the reasons that led them to the views and conclusion they gave. We thank the judges for their firm commitment to principle of fairness and justice. I also thank Mr President as well as the leadership of our great party APC at the State and Nationwide level for their role in the success of our re-election.
