Labour Day: FG Increases Civil Servants Salaries & Pension

The news going viral in celebration of Workers Day or Labour Day on 1st May 2024 posits that the Federal Government of Nigeria has increased the salaries of civil servants.

In other news, the Governor of Edo State His Excellency Godwin Obaseki reportedly increased minimum wage in Edo State to reflect the economic reality in the country .

The Labour Day 2024 celebration came with announcement of increase in the civil servants salaries by 25%.

The news of the 25% increase did not go down well with some people especially those earning thirty thousand naira only. The 25% increase may make a tiny difference for lower-salary earners according to some opinions gotten from social media.

Recall that Labour unions have severally demanded for increase in the salary, wages and pension of workers to reflect the economic reality in Nigeria after the removal of fuel subsidies and the increasing high cost of food supply not devoid of the increased cost of living in the urban & rural areas.
