Christopher Uwakwe Becomes West Africa’s First STEP-S Master Trainer

In a recent news disclosed by Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI) Enugu, the director of the Directorate of Entrepreneurship Godfrey Okoye University, Mr Christopher Chidiebere Uwakwe achieved a historic milestone by emerging as West Africa’s first STEP-S Master Trainer.

Over the years, Mr Uwakwe has demonstrated uncommon skill and leadership in championing sustainable entrepreneurship across Africa. This is evident in the numerous achievements he had accomplished in the Directorate of Entrepreneurship (DOE), where he is the director of entrepreneurship at Godfrey Okoye University Enugu.

In a disclosing news from the University, he is the first STEP- S Master Trainer from West Africa, which is a historical milestone achieved within one year of launching the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) partnership project funded by DAAD(Germany).

Master Trainer certificate was presented to Mr Christopher Uwakwe by Ms. Janina Peschmann on behalf of Prof. Michael Gielnik of Leuphana University. At the moment, the Vice Chancellor of Mount Kenya University, Prof. Deogratius Jaganiyi showered GOUNI with words of praise for the institution’s partnership in promoting sustainable entrepreneurship using the STEP-S project.

Upon return, Mr Uwakwe was received at the Vice Chancellor’s Office where the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke received a symbolic Maasai souvenir from Mount Kenya University, and he expressed his joy over the laudable achievement of Mr Uwakwe. He commended him and his team for all their efforts in teaching sustainable entrepreneurship, which has brought the recognition of a staff of the University as the West Africa first STEP-S Master Trainer. In commending the good work, he further demonstrated GOUNI’s commitment to the STEP-S project.

In the March 24th – March 28th Train the Trainer (TTT) workshop in Kenya, Mr Uwakwe demonstrated great leadership in the workshop where twelve faculty members were trained and all his efforts were not unnoticed.

So far, Godfrey Okoye University has empowered eighty student teachers in 2024, provided five thousand euro in student startup capital, trained two staff at PhD research workshops and shown expert readiness in adapting the STEP-S curriculum for secondary schools.

GOUNI further disclosed that the institution will host the second Train-the-Trainer (TTT) workshop in July 2025 and train six hundred undergraduates in October 2025 to continue the committed efforts in expanding STEP-S impact across Africa all under the DAAD funded partnership till 2027.

Mr Christopher Chidiebere Uwakwe’s milestone as the West Africa first STEP-S Master Trainer has raised the bar for sporadic adoption of sustainable entrepreneurship education in Africa.
