Bassirou Diomaye Fayo Sworn in as New President of Senegal

Bassirou Diomaye Fayo in the early hours of Tuesday 2nd April 2024 was sworn in as the new democratically elected president of Senegal.

Recall that Bassirou ran as an independent candidate during Senegal’s 2024 election where he defeated the ruling party and the choice presidential candidate of the former president of Senegal.

In his swearing-in ceremony, he said that before God and the Senegal people, he pledged to serve as the president and rule following the constitution and law of Senegal.

He pledged further to use all his strength to defend the constitutional institutions, territorial integrity, and national independence and to equally join efforts in achieving the realization of African unity.

Senegal for the first time achieved the milestone of being elected the youngest president of the country after so many years and the victory of His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Fayo reflects the popular support of the majority voters in Senegal.

Many international observers of the election have said that the election was a free and fair election where the real winner was declared elected.

Many presidents of countries within the African Union, ECOWAS, and others were present at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly democratically elected president of Senegal.
