In a significant political development, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially settled on Professor Nentawe Yilwatda as the consensus nominee for the position of National Chairman of Nigeria’s ruling party, which came into power in 2015 after defeating former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 presidential election in Nigeria.
The decision was reached after high-level consultations among party stakeholders and governors, signalling a renewed push for unity and strategic direction within the APC ahead of future elections.
Professor Yilwatda, a former gubernatorial candidate in Plateau State and a renowned academic, brings a reputation for discipline, innovation, and inclusive leadership. His emergence is widely seen as a move to reposition the party and expand its appeal across the middle belt and northern regions.
Reacting to the development, popular political commentator Mohammed Jammal, also known as White Nigerian, hailed the decision as historic.
“Finally, Plateau State is slowly becoming relevant in the political landscape,” Jammal stated, referencing the state’s growing visibility in national politics.
The official ratification of Professor Yilwatda’s position is expected at the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. Party members and political observers alike are watching closely as the APC prepares for a new chapter under his leadership.
Recall that former Governor of Kano State and National Chairman of APC Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje resigned from his position as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC)
