President of Ghana Appoints Kojo Choi as Ambassador‑Designate to South Korea

In a move reflecting Ghana’s deepening engagement with East Asia, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mr. Kojo Choi, a businessman of Korean descent, as Ghana’s new Ambassador‑Designate to the Republic of South Korea.

The announcement, formalized in a statement signed by Secretary to the President Dr. Callistus Mahama, follows consultations with the Council of State. The selection of Choi is seen as part of the administration’s strategic effort to refresh the country’s diplomatic outreach under its current foreign policy agenda

Kojo Choi (born Choi Seung Eub) relocated from South Korea to Ghana at age 14, later becoming a naturalized Ghanaian citizen. Educated at SOS College in Tema and the University of Ghana (Legon), he earned a degree in Business Administration in 2002

Choi brings over two decades of leadership experience in fintech, telecommunications, marketing, and business consulting across Ghana and West Africa. He is the founder of PaySwitch Limited, a licensed third-party payment processor for Visa, MasterCard, UnionPay, and Ghana’s major mobile money operators. The company is certified under ISO 27001 and PCI DSS standards

According to the news report by Pulse Ghana, he has also worked as a consultant for the Korean Embassy in Ghana and for leading multinational firms operating in both countries, positioning him as a cultural and business bridge between Ghana and South Korea.
