The Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has concluded plans to dump his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), to join the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
In a meeting attended by the Governor, his deputy, members of the State Executive Council, serving and some former members of the National Assembly, an agreement was said to be reached to join the ruling APC to quit PDP.
The meeting was attended by the former Governor of Delta State and PDP Vice Presidential candidate during the 2023 General election Senator Ifeanyi Okowa who is also tipped to be quitting PDP to join the ruling party “APC”
The Governor of Delta State who is a former speaker of Delta State House of Assembly and won his Governorship election in 2023 under the platform of PDP is yet to release official statement of his joining the ruling APC but certain statements have been released by aides loyal to the Governor who noted that official declaration will be coming on Monday 28th April 2025.
When Governor Sheriff joins APC, Delta State will become one of the states in the South South Geo-Political region that is governed by a Governor from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
Since the return of democracy in 1999, Delta state has been governed by PDP, and majority of the states in the South South region have been under the control of PDP, but the game seems to be changing in 2025, which analysts points to be an alliance ahead of the 2027 general election in Nigeria.
