Madrid, Spain – The Spanish government has declared a three-day national mourning period to honor the victims of the devastating floods that swept through the eastern regions of Valencia and Alicante, claiming the lives of over 90 people.
Flooding Disaster
Heavy rainfall caused severe flooding in the provinces of Valencia and Alicante, affecting several towns and cities. The floods destroyed homes, businesses, and infrastructure, leaving thousands displaced and without access to basic necessities.
Response and Relief Efforts
Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, visited the affected areas, pledging support for the victims’ families and announcing an initial aid package of €5 million.
“We will do everything possible to support those affected and rebuild the damaged areas,” Sánchez said.
National Mourning
The three-day mourning period, which began yesterday, includes:
- Flag-lowering ceremonies across the country
- Special church services and memorial events
- Suspension of all public events and festivities

The European Union, United Nations, and neighboring countries have offered condolences and assistance to Spain.
