The founder of Tekedia Institute and Harvard Business Review writer Professor Ndubuisi Ekekwe from Abia State, South East Nigeria recently used his social media LinkedIn page to call the attention of the Senate President of Nigeria Senator Godswill Akpabio on the need to have a working seaport in Akwa Ibom State or Cross River State.
Senator Akpabio was the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and former minister of Niger Delta including serving as minority leader of the 7th Senate led by Senator Bukola Saraki before he became the senate president of the 9th Senate Assembly.
Professor Ekekwe told Akpabio to use his good office as senate president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to attract a working Seaport in the South-South region and South-East region to contribute more in the economic development of Nigeria.
Ekekwe believes so much that the installation of a commissioned seaport in Akwa Ibom will bring an increase to Nigeria’s economy. He said that South-South and South East regions are closer to the North than shipping goods from Lagos State to states in the Northern part of Nigeria.
Ekekwe noted further that the federal government has the capacity to make the seaport achievable even though private sectors and state governors could show support but federal support will bring big weight to the faster birth of the seaport.
