Governor Peter Mbah Appoints Six New Commissioners, Reassigns Three in Ongoing Drive for Greater Service Delivery

The Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has announced a strategic shake-up in his administration with the appointment of six new commissioners and the reassignment of three others. This move, according to the Governor, is aimed at strengthening his team to enhance service delivery and meet the ambitious developmental targets set by his administration.

At a swearing-in ceremony held on 23rd July 2025, Governor Mbah also inaugurated a new Head of Service, Dr. Godwin Anigbo, mni, who is expected to drive reforms within the state’s civil service and improve bureaucratic efficiency.

The six newly appointed commissioners are:

  • Engr. Benjamin Osita Okoh – Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure
  • Prof. Benedett Ekwutosi Okoli – Commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Eradication
  • Enyinna Franklin Ogbonna (OKO Ugbabe)– Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources
  • Dr. Samuel Ogbu-Nwobodo – Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Industry
  • Prof. George Ugwu – Commissioner for Health
  • Engr. Ben Collins Ndu Jr. – Commissioner for Water Resources

In a bid to align portfolios with evolving development priorities, the Governor also reassigned three commissioners:

  • Dr. Felix Nnamani, formerly in charge of Water Resources, now heads the Ministry of Labour and Employment
  • Dr. Malachy Agbo, moves from Human Development and Poverty Eradication to the Ministry of Information
  • Engr. Gerald Otiji, who previously oversaw Works and Infrastructure, is now Commissioner for Housing

Governor Mbah, addressing the newly inaugurated and reassigned officials, emphasised the urgency of results-driven governance and the expectations of the people of Enugu State.

“Here in Enugu, we have steered such a high expectation among our people and every day it feels as though we are presenting a scorecard. There will be no honeymoon period,” he stated.

He reiterated that the administration’s targets are ambitious, backed by clear Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and that every appointee would be evaluated based on measurable outcomes.

“Our modest accomplishments so far have been the product of team effort, not a single champion. That is the reason I charged the appointees to embrace teamwork, complementing each other to achieve our collective goals,” Governor Mbah added.

The appointments and reassignments are seen as a strategic move to inject fresh energy and consolidate gains as the administration pushes forward with its transformation agenda across sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, investment promotion, water resources, and human capital development.
