Enugu State Ministry of Transport Moves to Decongest Traffic Across LGA Level

The Enugu State Government in a bid to extend the decongestion of traffic in various Local Government Areas has set up an Inter-ministerial committee consisting of all the relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies such as the Ministry of Transport, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the police, the army, the state and federal Emergency Management Agencies. Local Government Areas Chairmen in the State are also included to assist in managing traffic in every place in the rural and urban as each part of the state is located in the Local Government Area.

The new development to curb traffic decongestion in LGA levels was made known to the public on Friday 15th December 2023 during a press briefing by the Enugu State Commissioner of Transport Dr Obi Ozor after a successful State Executive Council meeting presided by the Executive Governor of Enugu State His Excellency Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

Briefing the press, the Commissioner of Transport said the local government chairmen are to inaugurate twenty-man volunteer traffic workers to assist the State Traffic Management Agency, ESTMA in controlling vehicles in the entire state.

The move to curb traffic decongestion is in line with the State Government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment.

Reacting to the rumour making waves on ESTMA worker recruitment, the Honourable Commissioner of Transport Dr Obi Ozor said the process for application and recruitment will be communicated officially to the public. The statement made by the commissioner indulges members of the public to always seek verified information from the relevant body in charge without wallowing in assumption as the government of the day operates open-door policy.

Speaking further, Dr Obi Ozor said that the Ministry of Transport only brought in about forty (40) Man O’ War volunteers whose job is to ensure that commercial buses and tricycles (keke) enter their parks before loading passengers and goods.

The commissioner expressed optimism that the Ministry of Transport will be recruiting traffic wardens in the coming year 2024 in line with job creation and employment opportunities for interested youths willing to serve in various capacities for the development of the State Transport sector anchored on innovation, disruption & technology-driven for better movement of people and goods in Enugu State.
