In a bold move to combat illegal mining, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested two Chinese nationals and their accomplices in Enugu while fleeing with illegal solid minerals. This operation is part of the agency’s efforts to curb the illicit exploitation of Nigeria’s natural resources.
The arrested Chinese nationals, Yang Chao, 39, and Xiao Jiang, 38, were caught alongside Chidi Joseph Osuji, 48, suspected to be an accomplice in the illegal business. The EFCC acted on intelligence reports to apprehend the suspects, highlighting the agency’s commitment to tackling economic crimes.
This arrest is not an isolated incident. The EFCC has been actively targeting illegal mining operations across the country. In February 2024, the Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC arrested two Chinese nationals for suspected illegal mining activities.
The EFCC’s actions demonstrate a renewed focus on combating economic crimes and protecting Nigeria’s natural resources. As the agency continues to crack down on illicit activities, citizens can expect a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.
