Canada Moves to Restrict Number of Immigrants Coming to the Country for 3 Years

The Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau in a recent viral video has announced that his government is fashioning a policy that will reduce the number of immigrants that comes into Canada for the next three years.

Canada has become a destination country for many immigrants from Asia and Africa continents mostly due to the quality of life and accommodating environment that the country offers.

Over the years, Canada has become one of the chosen destination countries for immigrants leaving their home countries for study, work and change of resident reasons.

According to the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, the country opened a wide welcoming door for immigrants after covid19 as the country needed a workforce. He said the policy worked as restaurants, businesses, and all critical sectors bounced back to better stability after the country was locked down during the era of covid19.

In the Video, PM Justin Trudeau noted that there is a need to restrict the number of immigrants coming to the country through student visas and permanent resident (PR) for three years to control the population of the country.

Speaking further, he said the country needs to work on infrastructure needed to serve those already in the country and those planning to come to the country. From his statement, the higher number of immigrants will pose a danger to the country when the existing infrastructure and amenities may no longer serve the entire population.

He said that many immigrants that came for study and chose to stay in Canada applied for Permanent residence enabling the full integration into living and working in Canada. Those already in the country with student visas will face converting their visa to Permanent residence upon completion of their studies or going back to their country including the offering of asylum opportunities.
