Bayo Bashir Ojulari, Newly Appointed Group CEO NNPC

Bayo Bashir Ojulari is an engineer by profession, he studied Mechanical Engineering from 1985-1989 at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) where he bagged a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) in Mechanical Engineering.

The academic knowledge he acquired from Ahmadu Bello University prepared him for the first stage of his career in the oil and gas industry. In 1989, he secured a job as a Fields and Processor Engineer at Elf Petroleum Nigeria, where he worked till he secured a job in Shell.

After leaving Elf Petroleum Nigeria in 1991, he secured a new job as an Associate Production Technologist SPDC Nigeria and maintained the same job role till 1994 when he went for an onsite integrated studies at Shell Head quarters (HQ) in Netherlands, Europe from 1994-1995.

After his studies, he became Head of Planning Economics & budgeting SPDC Nigeria till 1999 when he was given another new job role as an Asset Leader & Head Production Technologist, Sultanate of Oman.

In the third year of the 2000s, his career trajectory positioned him to become Sub- Saharan Africa Regional Planner at Shell Head Quarters in Netherlands from 2003 – 2004 until he returned back to Lagos Nigeria to take a role as an Asset Production Technologist SPDC Nigeria which was the same job role he occupied in the Sultanate of Oman.

Engr Bayo Bashir Ojulari worked on that job role with diligence and dedication from 2006- 2007 when he was appointed into a managerial role as the Manager, Corporate Planning and Strategy SPDC Nigeria. He maintained the job role for a complete three years until he was assigned another Manager role in 2008 as Manager Asset Development (Onshore & Shallow Water) SPDC Nigeria.

After two years of committed efforts that recorded laudable results, he became Development Director SPDC Nigeria where he led numerous projects in ways he managed budgets running in millions of dollars, including the workforce assigned to various projects. In the job role, he managed petroleum engineering aspects of one hundred oil and gas fields including leading fifteen major projects with a $700 million budget.

In 2015, he was promoted into a bigger position as the Managing Director Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company where he served on that job role for five years with records of successes as an expert in oil and gas sector. As the Managing Director, he led Shell Exploration and Production Company Nigeria Limited to production capacity of three hundred and twenty thousand barrels per day including managing an annual operating cost of one billion United States Dollars (USD).

Drawing from his wealth of experience as an expert in the field, he reduced operational cost by 30%, capital project cost by 40% and increased production by 20% through a strategic plan.

He was the Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company from 2015 – 2021 marking a twenty-four-year full-time commitment in the company in a resoundingly fulfilled career in the corporate ladder of the company.

After leaving the job role, he became Board Chairman of BAT Advisory & Energy Company Nigeria Ltd in ways he provided consultancy services from his wealth of experience and knowledge over the years.

In the year 2024, he was appointed as Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer at Renaissance Africa Energy Company till his newest job role as the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Limited effective from 2nd April 2025 after the President of Nigeria His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed him into the big job role to replace Mele Kyari.

Engr. Bayo Bashir Ojulari is an authority and tested business leader with over thirty four years experience in Oil and gas industry where he had delivered optimally in assigned job roles.

His experience is not limited to Nigeria alone as he has demonstrated leadership acumen and held key leadership positions in Nigeria, Middle East, and Europe while piloting the business of oil and gas.
